Olivia Gillmore

Olivia GillmoreChief Editor

Olivia Gillmore is a Houston School of Arts and Design graduate with a BA in Sculpture that loves everything about DIY. Over on DIYExperience, she contributes with everything you can think of, from tutorials and crafts to detailed how-to-plans and elaborate renovation project ideas with step-by-step advice.

Olivia’s proclivity for arts and crafts was obvious ever since her kindergarten years. She was always the most artistically gifted child in any class, which prompted her parents to invest in her education in this respect from an early age. Over the years, she attended many workshops and summer schools, learning how to advance her skills more and more.

After experiencing all there was in the world of artistic expression, Olivia decided to attend sculpture classes, which is how she obtained her BA as well. Due to her intensive training in the field, she learned how to handle tools and make things with her bare hands. And thus, her passion for DIY was born.

Olivia currently teaches a private workshop on DIY of her own, and she hopes to someday create an educational hub for children with the same inclinations as hers. In the meantime, she shares her experience in any way she finds fit.

She is always happy to share valuable information with other DIY enthusiasts such as herself.

Diana Dunson

Diana DunsonPublic Relations Manager

Diana Dunson became passionate about DIY projects at a very  young age. As a little girl, she could usually be found playing DIY while her mother and grandmother did craft projects. One of her fondest memories is of her mother and grandmother making a quilt. They gave Diana little scraps of quilt, a needle, and thread, and Diana made a little miniature quilt for her dolls.

From needlework, after learning that making your own projects from scratch was much more fun than going to a store and buying things you need or hiring someone to do it, Diana branched out into DIY home projects with her grandfather, who was a carpenter.

He would give her a piece of wood with various screws and nails in it. Then, he’d give her a (child safe!) hammer and let her bang away.

When she’s not DIY-ing, Diana is what she calls a “part-time band/football/cheerleading mom,” duties she shares with her husband of 16 years. Their four children keep them busy with all of their various activities, including 6:30 band practice and Friday Night Lights. And she wouldn’t change any of it.

Jacklyn Towns

Jackyln TownsResearch Analyst

Jacklyn Towns says that she was “born to research.” As a little girl, she spent most of her time reading and loaning her books from her “mini library” to her friends, who all patiently filled out their pretend library cards.

It seemed only natural that she’d pursue a degree in Library Science, with a double major in Mathematics. Her studies help her extensively in her role at DIY Experience. She says that she has her “dream job.”

How does all of this tie into DIY? In addition to being obsessed with books as a child, Jacklyn spent her weekends hanging out with her dad as he built their family home himself over the course of three years. He learned a lot, and Jacklyn and her two brothers did as well.

In her spare time (ha), Jacklyn enjoys volunteering at her local animal shelter socializing cats, which means spending time petting them and acclimating them to people so that they will be more easily adoptable. As a result, it is of course impossible not to occasionally fall in love and bring a fur baby home. So Jacklyn has three rescue cats of her own.
